Let's talk CAKE!

Cake... so many amazing words come to mind when I think about cake.

To be honest, I am very picky when it comes to cake. And I do not really care for icing. I would much rather indulge in a piece of decadent chocolate than eat a piece of cake. However, that was until I found Kahiau's Organic Sweet Treats, located at the VB Farmer Market

My children and I happened to stop in while checking out the Food Truck Rodeo at the Farmers Market. The sweetest gal met me at the door and struck up a conversation. That was Vicky, the shop owner and baker. We automatically hit it off over the love of sweets and living a healthy lifestyle! That's right, I said healthy life style. You may ask how I could use the terms healthy and sweets in the same sentence, which I don't blame you.

My family and I aim to eat clean, nourishing foods. No, we do not do this 100% of the time. Our meat is organic, non hormone added; our veggies and fruit are organic, GMO free; and our snacks do not have any colorings, or dyes. Recently, we learned that my daughter has a dairy aversion. Though she doesn't drink milk, she does enjoy cheese and yogurt. Due to this, we have been extra strict with reading ingredients and paying closer attention to what we are consuming. This has been an amazing lesson for all of us!

Ok, back to the cake! While browsing the sweets that Vicky had available, I realized they all had a few things in common... they were organic and vegan! No eggs, butter, or milk in sight! Everything in the shop was safe for my daughter, and made with high quality, healthy ingredients! Even the Chipotle Mac 'n Cheese! Can you say love at first sight?!

Ever since that day, my family and I are frequent shoppers at Kahiau's Organic Sweet Treats. In fact, I am pretty sure we have gone almost every weekend since I met Vickey since moving here. Whoops!! Good thing I LOVE the gym also ;) Luckily, the cakes come in individually packages slices and cupcakes, so you can splurge just a little!

Also, just in case you were not aware, tomorrow, July 7th, is National Chocolate Day! Totally my day! Kahiau's Organic Sweet Treats will be doing a special menu to celebrate! If you head on over to her Facebook page, you can take a peek at all the goodies that will be available!

And if you have a special request, no problem! She can make something to fit your taste. For example, my birthday cake was chocolate with cherry filling and an icing that was as fluffy as clouds :) Just a little back story about the icing, it is made from Chick Peas! Yes! That is right... chick peas! Who knew?!

(I apologize that you cannot read the Happy Birthday part... it was so delicious, I dug in before I had a chance to take photos!)

Week #24 Project 52 | Virginia Beach, VA Family Photographer

Hello, week #24!

This week kicked off summer vacation! Sun, beach, pool, and fun... it doesn't get much better than that!

This week was also a week of bittersweet memories. My sweet girl completed her 1st grade year, and will be moving on to the gifted class in 2nd grade. This is something I am beyond proud of, yet sad. I miss late night snuggles with my baby girl, splash time in the bath, and messy meal times. She is growing before my eyes, no matter how much I protest.

(First day of 1st grade on the left/last day of 1st grade on the right).

She is also one of the strongest people I have ever met. She has been to five different duty stations in her short 7 years. She has also been through many goodbyes and heartaches saying goodbye to her dad and family. I always say she wears her heart on her sleeve; showing her compassions and kindness to everyone she meets. Something I wouldn't change for anything!

So today we celebrate moving from 1st grade to 2nd and the beginning to a new chapter!

Hello There!

It seems like it has been FOREVER since I had the chance to sit down and blog... about a month and a half to be exact!

In the last month so much has changed, mainly our address. We made the move from Maryland to Virginia, and I must admit, I LOVE it here!!! The weather, the ocean, the people; it just keeps getting better and better with each day. I am beyond excited of the possibility to be here for the next 6 years.

One of the first things I was looking to do once we arrived was to find a new Taekwondo studio for my daughter. After two years and achieving her Purple belt, we felt it important to find a place for her to continue her journey. Unfortunately, we never found what we were looking for. We visited many places, but just couldn't find the right fit. My husband had suggested we take her to a Jiu-Jitsu academy that was highly recommend by his coworkers. My sweet 7 year old was not all that thrilled, to say the least. However, she went and gave it a go. And she absolutely loved it and wanted to sign a contract that day! I love watching her learn new skills and become more secure in herself. And to be completely honest, as a mom, I cannot tell you how much more reassuring it is to see your young daughter be able to truly defend herself.

Last night in class she had the opportunity to demonstrate to her peers a new technique they were learning.

When she stood up, she looked over at me and I gave her a big smile and a thumbs up, to which she skipped away wearing a grin from ear to ear!

Thank you to LINXX Academy of Martial Arts for giving my little lady such confidence and welcoming our family to Virginia with open arms!

Be on the look out for more of our adventures in Virginia Beach!

Week #14!

I know, I know! I am late on another week, however, things have not slowed down over here and do not look to for the foreseeable future. With out move to VA Beach only a few short weeks away, we are now attempting to work out the kinks that happen with a quick move. Fingers crossed things go as smoothly as possible!

During the week and all the chaos that seems to be a constant right now, I had to frequently remind myself that things are only temporary and will eventually be back to 'normal'. And it took a newly turned 3 year old to remind me to sit back and enjoy the small things, even when everything around you seems to crazy!

On Thursday evening, I put my little guy in the bath, something he now loves to do. I was thinking of the million things I needed to do, all the people I still needed to call, when Kaden said "mama, where are the bubbles?". Isn't it amazing? Our minds are going a mile a minute with what needs to happen next, or what didn't get done, and all he was worried about was that silly mommy forgot to add the bubbles!

While sitting next to the bath, listening to my son make airplane noises, I thought about how much I will miss this age. How much I will miss him wanting me to sit next to the bath tub while he plays. And I thought about how much I need these small moments in my life. No matter how busy we all get, or how stressful things may seem, it is these simple activities that make it all worth it. Tomorrow he will be older than today, he will know more words, and will be more independent than before. And I will be missing my baby boy every step of the way. So tonight, while things seem like chaos, I will sit next to the bath tub and play helicopters with my son.

Week #13 Project 52 | Bowie, MD Family Photographer

Week #13 is upon us!

Due to the last week being super busy, I missed blogging week #12. Life happens, and as the saying goes, when it rains, it pours!

However, I have some exciting news and can now officially share! My family and I will be PCS'ing (military move) to VA Beach at the end of April. We are both excited and nervous for the upcoming adventure. This will be an amazing career move for my husband, and of course bring us back to the beach. This week we went and scouted some potential areas to live, and luckily were able to score an amazing beach house to stay at while we did! The kids could not get enough of the porch overlooking the ocean.

Mr. Kaden would yell "SHIP MAMA" every time he saw one in the distance. He kept telling us how we were at "the beeeech house".

We also visited one of our favorite places, Historic Williamsburg. It really is such an amazing place to walk around and see. Even the big kids have fun! And luckily we had a beautiful day for our outing.

If you are in the VA Beach area, I look forward to working with you! I can see a ton of beautiful beach sessions in my future with the new maternity gowns that are on the way.
